Restoration of Eve and the birthright of the Elder Son

The Long Journey of the Seed of God’s Lineage (2)

Restoration of Fallen Eve

The original Eve risked her life in order to reject the lineage of God and receive the love of Satan. In restoration, then, there must be women who risk their lives to reject the love of Satan and receive the lineage of God.

Let us look now at three central women that Father has taught us about --- Tamar, Bathsheba, and Mary.

Tamar

We are first going to talk about Tamar. You know, as I studied Tamar, I have discovered theologians do not quite know what to make of Tamar. She is a minor figure in the Scriptures. She is typified as being a tragic figure, a pathetic figure. Her life was ruined. She had two husbands die on her and then she dressed up as a prostitute and seduced her father-in-law. Theologians tend to say, "Well, Tamar is an example showing that God can use the unrighteous, even someone like Tamar."

However, you know, Father had a completely different perspective on Tamar. So let us talk a little bit about her life.

Tamar was married to the eldest son of Judah, a man named Er. Well, Er was a wicked man in the sight of God, God put him to death. Judah said, "Tamar, I'm going to give you my second son, Onan, as your husband." Actually, this was a common practice in ancient Israel. It has called the "kinsman redeemer" principle, and what that means is that when a woman's husband died, it was common practice for the brother of the dead husband to take the widow as his wife. And in that way, he would have children and those children would belong to the deceased husband's lineage.

This shows how important lineage was to the Jewish people. Therefore, Onan married Tamar, but there was no love lost between Onan and his elder brother Er. Truth is, Onan did not want to give Er his own lineage. When he and Tamar would have relationship, he would spill his seed on the ground. Well, God did not like this. Onan was wicked in the sight of the Lord, and he was put to death. So now Er and Onan have died. Judah has one son left, Shelah. Shelah is still a boy, too young to get married.

So Judah says to Tamar, "Tamar, go to your father's house and when Shelah grows up, I'll give him to you as your husband." So Tamar says okay, and she goes to her father's house. Well after Tamar goes, Judah has a change of heart. He is thinking, "I've had two of my sons die on this woman, if I give her a third son, the chances are he's going to die too." So when Shelah grows up, Judah does not offer Shelah to Tamar. Tamar takes notice. This is where we need to understand the perspective that True Father had on Tamar.

Tamar was a woman who loved God. She had a relationship with God. She talked to God. God talked to her. Tamar knew, in no uncertain terms, that it was God's will for her to continue the line of Judah. She knew that Judah's line was of God. And for that reason, and that reason alone, she dressed up as a prostitute to seduce her father-in-law. They had relationship one time and sure enough, from that encounter she was pregnant with twins, Perez and Zerah, and Perez was, in fact, in the messianic lineage.

"Tamar is an example of how God selects His champions from the most miserable situations. Although she was originally in a sinful position, she completely dedicated herself to God's mission, risking her life, honor and prestige. [The punishment for being a prostitute was stoning to death.] Paralleling the way Eve lied to God and her husband to bring about the fall, Tamar deceived her father-in-law and her husband-to-be, the third brother of her original husband."

"She was in a position to reverse the position of Eve by reversing Eve's actions, but the significant thing is that she risked her life to do God's will." "True Parents Day from the Historical Point of View" 4/18/77

"The first mother, Eve, fell because she did not believe in God's words, so Tamar, who was to restore Eve's position, had to demonstrate absolute faith in God."

"Eve's faithlessness made her abandon her father, God. Instead, she accepted Satan as her father and put him in God's position. Therefore, Tamar, on the contrary, had to talk directly with God. Eve was not able to be united with her father, so Tamar had to be united with her father." Her heavenly father.

"Satan sowed the seed of false love within the womb of Eve, which gave birth to evil life. Therefore, God needed to purify a mother's womb from which the heavenly Son could be born…"

"The great mother who assumed the responsibility to meet this condition was Tamar." "View of the Principle of the Providential History of Salvation"  4/16/96

Bathsheba.

"The mother of King Solomon was Bathsheba, originally the wife of Uriah before King David stole her. Then how could the child from that union become King Solomon? Bathsheba was in the providential position of Eve in the Garden of Eden before the fall. David was in the position of Adam, and Uriah was in the position of the archangel."

"The archangel distracted the spouse of Adam with love and stole her away, making her fall. A reversal course is needed in order to indemnify that; therefore a person in the position of the archangel's wife had to be restored to the position of Eve. Therefore, the child who was born on the foundation of that reversal could be born as a child of heavenly love, a child of glory. Solomon was such a child of glory." Change of Blood Lineage: The Real Experience of Salvation by the Messiah" 10/13/70

In the Garden of Eden, the archangel stole Eve from Adam. That course was reversed when David stole Bathsheba from Uriah. During the course of the fall, Adam submitted to fallen Eve. Therefore, fallen Eve has to completely submit to Adam in order to be restored.

Mary, the mother of Jesus.

"There was another girl who regarded the historical significance of her actions to be more important than her own dignity or her own social environment. She regarded God's will as the highest priority. That girl was Mary. Mary maintained the standard of victory and Satan could not accuse her. So on the foundation established by Mary, Jesus was conceived. It was that victorious foundation which qualified Jesus to be born from God. Without coming on such a historical foundation, nobody could be qualified to be the Messiah." "Change of Blood Lineage: The Real Experience of Salvation by the Messiah" 10/13/70

Mary was a woman who inherited the faith and determination of Tamar, but could receive God's calling as a virgin. Just as Tamar utilized heavenly deception in order to reverse Eve's betrayal, Mary deceived her future husband Joseph in order to conceive the Holy Child.

Joseph, Mary's husband-to-be, was a man descended from the fall. In order for Jesus to be born in the position of the firstborn son who could receive the first love of God, he had to be born of the Holy Spirit. For this to happen, God had to use someone greater than the fallen archangel, who could be a loyal subject on Heaven's side. That person was Zechariah, a high priest of the Temple.

Father alludes to this in the Cheon Seong Gyeong. He says, "Jesus and John the Baptist were brothers. This has not been revealed before, but they were brothers."

Mary reversed Eve's fall by risking her life in order to give birth to Jesus, the Son of God. In ancient Israel, the punishment for out-of-wedlock pregnancy was death by stoning. Mary, however, followed God's will unconditionally.

She said, "I am the Lord's servant. May everything you have said about me come true." Luke 1:38

Why was it that a host of angels -- the armies of heaven --- praised God on the night of Jesus' birth? Mary had no crib to place him in. Instead, he was laid in a manger, a feeding trough for animals. The angels, the wise men, the shepherds all gave glory to God in highest heaven for one reason: The lineage of God was once again dwelling on the earth.

On the foundation of 4000 years of restoration, consummated in Mary's victorious condition, Jesus was qualified to be born from the seed of God.

Tamar, Bathsheba, and Mary demonstrated sacrificial love towards God, cooperating with Heaven's will to help make conditions for the purification of the lineage.

Satan always sacrifices others for the sake of himself. He cannot be present during acts of selfless love, which are focused on God.

Now lets look at restoring the birthright of the elder son

Another important aspect of the fall which needed to be reversed in order to purify the messianic lineage was restoration of the elder son's birthright.

Adam and Lucifer.

Adam was created to be God's elder son. However, through Eve's spiritual fall with Lucifer, and physical fall with Adam, Satan left his position as servant, and took false dominion over Adam. Thus, the elder son's birthright was stolen by Satan in the Garden of Eden.

In order to restore Adam's role as elder son, God hoped that Cain (representing Satan) would make his offering through Abel (representing Adam before the Fall), thus restoring the elder son's position.

Had this happened, the Messiah would have been able to come in Adam's family.

Instead, Cain repeated the archangel's murderous intent and killed his brother Abel. In this manner, Satan took dominion over the universe created by God. He assumed the position of the eldest son. Therefore, in order for God to dwell on earth through Christ, He must first make the condition of reversing the birth order within the messianic lineage. Heavenly order was restored through Jacob and his elder brother Esau.

Father says:

"When their mother Rebecca was pregnant she prayed, "God, within my womb there are two babies and they are righting each other! What shall I do?' God answered, "There are two countries in your womb. The elder one will serve the younger." Why did God say that? It was because God had to establish the correct heavenly order, to put it right side up." "How We are Born Again" 5/18/78

"Rebecca cooperated with Jacob in helping him steal the birthright from Esau by lying to his father, Isaac. Mother and son united with God to cut the fallen tie."

What was the fallen tie? Isaac was going to give his blessing to the elder son, Esau, but Rebecca cooperated with Jacob in deceiving Isaac so that her younger son, Jacob, would receive Isaac's blessing.

"This was to restore the process by which Satan took the world; The archangel lied to his own Father (God) and to Adam, deceiving Father and son." "The Day of the Victory of Heaven" 10/4/79

"Jacob knew the will of God and he wanted to become the heir who could receive the inheritance." "During 21 years of hard struggle, Jacob was constantly working to win the heart of Esau."

"On the way to meet his brother Esau, Jacob wrestled with an angel at the ford of Jabbok." "The Birth of Jesus and the Consummation of God's Will” 12/24/78

"In order to restore Adam's failure of being subjugated by the archangel, Jacob had to first conquer an angel, who was in the position of Esau on the spiritual level, before being able to actually subjugate Esau on the physical level."

"He wrestled with an angel at the ford of Jabbok all through the night for success on the spiritual level. In wrestling with the angel, he had to risk all his possessions and his children, including himself and his wife." "Jacob's Course and Our life in Faith"  5/27/73

"At last the angel gave in. At daybreak, he said to Jacob, 'You have won the battle, you have prevailed.' He blessed Jacob with the name 'Israel', which meant 'victor.'"

"All through human history, Jacob was the only man to have wrestled with an angel and been victorious." "Jacob's Course and Our Life in Faith" 5/27/73

"After defeating the angel, he was ready to face his brother Esau. He could have gone somewhere else to enjoy his hard-earned wealth if he did not think of God's will."

"He could have said, 'Esau is Esau, and I am I; what have I to do with his life?' But his mind was so occupied by God's will that he wanted to meet his brother and reconcile the past and soothe his heart until his resentment vanished." "Jacob's Course and Our Life in Faith" 5/27/73

"What did he have to do in meeting his elder brother, Esau? He had to be ready to give up all his possessions, all his servants and his children, telling his brother that all these belonged to him. His attitude was: 'All that I have is yours, except God's will and God's blessing which is eternally mine." "Jacob's Course and Our Life in Faith"  5/27/73

"Adam, who ignored God's will, was self-centered, minding only himself, and lost his children and all things of God's blessing. On the contrary, Jacob was so God-centered that he would give away all things for the will of God. After receiving Jacob's gifts, Esau's heart was melted. It was by receiving these gifts that the conditions were met and Esau as the archangel in substance was subjugated." "Jacob's Course and Our Life in Faith" 5/27/73

"No one has known until this present age these principles of reversing the fall which enabled God to purify the lineage in preparation for sending His Son Jesus." "With strong faith, love, and obedience, Heaven's champions could make powerful conditions to separate from Satan, enabling God to restore history and begin anew in Jesus Christ." "God's Warning to the World: Reverend Moon's Message from Prison

With the advent of Jesus Christ, the precious seed of God once again came down from Heaven to dwell in an unfallen man on the earth.

In the book of John, 1:14 it is written, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."

Father says: "How does Jesus differ from people like Shakyamuni of Buddhism, Confucius of Confucianism or Mohammed of Islam? Throughout history, Jesus is the only person who was born on the foundation of a purified lineage. That is the difference." Rev. Sun Myung Moon 10/31/87

Jesus was a true man because he perfectly lived the life of God. He walked every step with God; he was the fruit of the truth of God's Logos. There was no separation between God and Jesus. When Jesus appeared, so could God. When Jesus rejoiced, so could God. When Jesus was glorified, so was God.

Father said:

"When God's artery moved, Jesus' artery moved. The movement of love was automatic because their blood was connected. Such a world transcends logic as we know it." "The Father and I" 7/12/59

Through the seed of Jesus, God once again hoped to establish His lineage on earth for all of eternity. With Jesus as subject, God would have been able to establish His subjective authority, His eternal Kingship of t rue love upon the earth.

With God's lineage finally on earth, the position of true Eve could be restored physically as well as spiritually. Her womb would have been purified through receiving the original seed and love of true Adam, Her character would have been restored by attending him as his bride of fidelity and obedience. In unity with him as her absolute subject, God's sons and daughters would have been born on earth.

Through Jesus and his bride, the True Parents of humankind, an everlasting connection would have been created between the invisible and visible worlds.

But due to the faithlessness of the Israelites, Jesus was crucified, and God's lineage was not established on the earth. Like the dove who returned to Noah's Ark rather than alighting on land, the seed of God could not stay on earth but ascended to the world of spirit. Spiritual salvation was attainable through a relationship with Christ, but God's physical lineage was not able to be maintained upon the earth.

Yet before Jesus went to the cross he was able to renew the hope of God.

He said, in the book of john

"Let not your heart be troubled…in my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself; that where I am, there you may be also." John 14:1-3

Why does Christ need to come again?

"Christianity will be fulfilled when total salvation is attainable, on both the physical and spiritual levels."

"What's why Jesus has to come again? Only through the mission of the Second Advent can we gain physical salvation, fulfilling the prophecy of the Lord of Glory."

"Since the prophecy of the suffering Christ became fact in the time of Jesus, the prophecy of the Lord of Glory has been left unfulfilled. And this is the prophecy which will be fulfilled at the time of the Lord of the Second Advent." "God's Warning to the World: Reverend Moon's Message from Prison

Brothers and sisters, the second coming of Christ occurred on January 6, 1920, in Chongju, North Korea.

"Reverend Moon's family converted to Christianity when he was 10 years old. God became a huge presence in Reverend Moon's life at a young age."

"He naturally began to immerse himself in prayer to seek answers that were troubling his heart; "Who am I? Where did I come from? What is the purpose of life? Is there a world of the eternal soul?" Sun Myung Moon: The Early Years 10920-53.  Michael Breen

"He began spending more and more time in prayer, often calling out to God through the night."

"On the night before Easter in 1935, Sun Myung Moon was on Mount Myodu, praying and beseeching God in tears for answers."

"Early Easter morning Jesus appeared before him. He appeared in an instant, like a gust of wind, and said to him, 'God is in great sorrow because of the pain of humankind. You must take on a special mission on earth having to do with Heaven's work." Sun Myung Moon: The Early Years 1920-53. Michael Breen

"Jesus asked Reverend Moon to complete the mission that he, Jesus, had begun but not yet completed:

'This is my work, my mission, and I want you to take it over.'

Twice, Reverend Moon refused. To seek after the will of Heaven was one thing, but to make a promise to God was something else altogether. Jesus asked him a third time; 'There is no one else who can do this work.' Finally Reverend Moon agreed: 'I will do it,' he promised." Sun Myung Moon: The Early Years 1920-53. Michael Breen

"With this pledge, his life was forever changed."

"After his encounter with Jesus, Reverend Moon spent the next nine years immersed in prayer and study of the Bible. While, like any normal child, he studied, fished and played sports with his friends and cousins, he lived an inner life he could share with no one else."

"He studied the Bible incessantly in order to find God's truth behind its verbal expression: 'I would read the same passages in three languages (i.e. Korean, Japanese, and English) again and again. Each time I read a passage, I would underline verses and make notes in the margins until the pages of my Bibles became stained with black ink and difficult to read." Sun Myung Moon: The Early Years 1920-53. Michael Breen

"He spent days and nights in passionate prayer, rigorous fasting and study. His method was to posit specific questions, research answers in the physical and spiritual worlds, and then seek confirmation for those answers through prayer." Sun Myung Moon: the Early Years 1920-53. Michael Breen

"He wanted to know what was real and true: 'I have studied science. I am a very scientific person and I do not want any blind faith. I do not want the God of concept. I want the God of life, and God is life, life itself. That God I seek. The God who can govern life itself and who can be the real, true backbone of the world." Sun Myung Moon: The Early Years 1920-52 Breen

The more he studied, however, the more he realized that the answers to his questions went beyond the realm of intellect. The core problem, he discovered, was not of an intellectual nature. The main problem was spiritual.

He said:

"It was as if the human spirit was diseased. To find the cure he would need to continue travelling the path of spiritual growth Jesus had travelled. He would have to become one with God. He had to fulfill the words of Jesus: (Matthew 5:48) "you, therefore must be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect.'"  Sun Myung Moon: The Early Years

"On those days when his prayers and dedication connected to Heaven, Jesus appeared to him without fail and conveyed special messages. If he was earnest in his desire to know something, Jesus would appear with a gentle expression and give him answers of truth”.

Father said:

'His words were always on the mark, and they struck deep into my bosom like sharp arrows. These were not mere words; they were revelations about the creation of the universe that opened the door to a new world. '" Sun Myung Moon: The Early Years

"Reverend Moon took the words of Jesus to heart and prayed with an earnestness strong enough to uproot a tree. Gradually, he came into a new realization about God's purpose in creating the universe and His principles of creation. This effort invited all manner of temptation and unanticipated struggle. In his prayers, he battled with dark forces. At times great waves of black fear billowed through his soul." Sun Myung Moon: The Early Years

"He once tried to explain the experience of those years but could not find the words: 'If you knew what it was like, your heart would stop.'

Faith kept him going.

"I knew that God was living. I knew that God had chosen me for this mission. Therefore, I believed that this was the only way for man to go, including myself. I couldn't quit.'" Sun Myung Moon: The Early Years

"He experienced the lives of the main characters in biblical history empathetically:

"'When I came to the fall of Adam and Eve, I felt as if it were my own business. I felt the sorrow of God so see Adam's fall. I felt Adam's sorrow in himself. In each event, I put myself in the position of those involved and felt with them and with God, all through the history. It was not someone else's history, but my own life." Sun Myung Moon: The Early Years

"He saw that the life of God's people is one of suffering, that God's experience throughout human history has been one of grief, sharing the suffering of His children. In the journey into the heart of God's experience, he found pain and loss: 'I have shed so many tears. I not only understood the Principle, but lived it.'" Sun Myung Moon: The Early Years

"As Reverend Moon read and re-read the Bible, praying and meditating on its contents, it seemed that the central events after Adam kept coming back to this story of Adam's family. The lives of Noah, Abraham, and Jesus seemed to be an echo of Adam." Sun Myung Moon: The Early Years

As he studied God's central figures, he began to make a connection --- their failure or success was based on whether they repeated the process that led to the fall of Adam and Eve, or reversed it.

"God's providential focus, it seemed, had been to find one true man, the Messiah. A man who knew the truth and lived by it, a true man with God's personality who could overcome evil through unwavering faith, whose heart was one with God's heart. Such a man would begin the process of bringing the world back to God. He would become the perfected Adam, the Tree of Life, the ancestral parent of humanity." Sun Myung Moon: The Early Years

"Reverend Moon understood that Jesus was the first person since the fall of Adam and Eve to become one with God. But he was executed before he was able to fully reveal his teaching. Had Jesus lived, Reverend Moon came to believe he would have married, raised a family, and been the starting point of the Kingdom of Heaven by establishing God's lineage on the earth." Sun Myung Moon: The Early Years

"At the end of his long spiritual struggle, when Reverend Moon was sure of the truth he had discovered, he sought confirmation before starting his public mission. He began a forty-day fast. At the end of this period he confronted Lucifer, the archangel, who he believed, had caused the fall of Adam and Eve.

Lucifer accepted everything except the interpretation of the fall of man. At this point, Reverend Moon took Lucifer before God. God could not be seen but His voice could be heard. God manifested Himself in the form of waves and mountains." Sun Myung Moon: The Early Years

"God posed different explanations for the cause of man's fall. He asked Reverend Moon whether the fall had occurred because of the fruit of a tree, because of freedom, because of illicit love, or because of something else. Reverend Moon said it was illicit love. Then came one of the most devastating experiences of all. God denied what he said and told him it was wrong. At that point, a spiritual force struck Reverend Moon so hard, he said, that if he had not been physically standing, he might never have been able to get up." Sun Myung Moon: The Early Years

"Convinced of the truth of his conclusions, Reverend Moon insisted, and God denied him again. When he stated the cause a third time, God acknowledged it as the truth, and the evil force lifted from him. Finally Lucifer admitted the truth: Reverend Moon was right." Sun Myung Moon: The Early Years

Just like Jacob wrestling the angel at the ford of Jabbok, Reverend Moon wrestled the archangel Lucifer and won a decisive victory by exposing Satan's hidden crime against God and humanity.

"For Reverend Moon to become one with God and embody the principles he had discovered, and to teach others to follow the same path, required such monumental conviction and determination that he even had to argue his case with God. It also meant that he could not be accused by Satan; Reverend Moon had searched this truth out himself, and felt it to his bones." Sun Myung Moon: The Early Years

In the long, often agonizing process of uncovering the contents, which would come to be known as the Divine Principle, Reverend Moon also completed the process of his own maturation as the Son of God.
